A couple of weeks ago my dogs killed a rabbit. I don't know how the rabbit got into their yard, but it made a wrong turn and ended up in the yard of four herding dogs. It didn't have a chance.

I reached out to my local raw group to find out the changes of the dogs getting worms from eating the rabbit and heard from two people. One person said that her dogs have killed many rabbits and have gotten tapeworms a few times. Another member said that although her dogs hunt rabbits, they've only gotten worms once.

3 Natural Ways to Deworm a Raw Fed Dog

Did My Dogs Get Worms from the Rabbit?

I don't think that they did, but I'm not certain. Cosmo got worms when he went missing for seven days and vomited up what looked like roundworms upon his return – thank you, Cosmo – and then he was fine.

Tapeworms, which come from swallowing fleas, break off in segments and unless they're on the outside of poop, or I dig through the poop (so not happening), they won't turn up unless I have our dogs' poop tested.

Since they are already on a routine that includes a dewormer, I chose to continue with the same routine. Rodrigo, who I believe did most of the eating, did experience some digestive issues for a day – diarrhea and loose stool – but was otherwise okay.
